Sodalite is a rich blue tectosilicate mineral from the feldspathoid group, composed primarily of sodium, chlorine, aluminum, and silicon. It has a cubic crystal system and typically forms massive or granular crystals, though rare well-formed dodecahedral crystals can occur. Sodalite has a Mohs hardness of 5.5-6, making it relatively durable, and exhibits bright orange-red fluorescence under ultraviolet light. It is valued as an ornamental and decorative stone due to its vibrant blue color with white veining patterns, and is also used as an affordable gemstone in jewelry.
